No one is paying us to create Scholastica. We’re making it because we think that there are huge problems with the academic publishing industry. And of course, we’ve taken it upon ourselves to provide solutions to the problems we’ve found.

Scholastica is the product of people not unlike yourselves. We’re just three current and two former graduate students from the University of Chicago. Three of us are in Chicago. The other two split their time between Chicago, Phoenix, and Brooklyn. Three of us are writing dissertations.

Scholastica is developed early in the morning and late at night - both times outside of normal working hours. Weekends are usually all day affairs.

We’re not some startup in a fancy loft space with tons of funding from investors and shooting Nerf guns at each other between lines of code.

And we wouldn’t have it any other way.

We’re happy with our situation because we’re academics making something for other academics. We can’t just sit around and wait for people from the outside to fix our problems for us. Thank goodness we live in an age where we can fix them ourselves.

Thanks to everyone who’s given us advice, signed up for beta accouts, and spread the word about Scholastica. We’re finishing up one last feature before we send beta invites out. We can’t wait for you all to log in and see what all the fuss is about.
