Last Friday 9/16/16 Scholastica and the International Society of Managing and Technical Editors (ISMTE) co-hosted a Twitter chat on journal promotion as a follow up to the Social Media and Website Optimization for Journals webinar. The Twitter chat, which used the hashtag #JournalEdsChat, was an open Q&A discussion joined by editors and others who work with academic journals.

Twitter chat attendees delved into the specifics of a wide range of journal promotion topics, including:

  • Pros and cons of journal blogging
  • Best practices for planning social media outreach and reporting on its performance
  • Ideas for revamping journal websites

Among the top journal promotion outlets participants discussed were LinkedIn groups, Facebook pages, Twitter profiles, journal blogs, and podcasts. Across outlets, participants agreed journals should be promoting a mix of their own announcements and external news relevant to readers, in order to engage in broader scholarly dialogue.

We want to thank everyone who came out for the journal promotion Twitter chat!
